Job Title: R&D Catheter Assembler Clean Room, 2nd Shift Job Description

This role focuses on assembling medical catheters in an R&D environment, working extensively under a microscope to build short-run products and subassemblies. You will use small hand tools and specialized processes such as braiding, reflow, bonding, annealing, and liner stretching, while performing visual inspections, documenting work accurately, and completing final packaging. The catheters are similar to guidewire catheter assemblies and include lead wires, so some soldering will be required. You will contribute directly to the development and production of high-quality medical devices in a clean room setting.

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a team to assemble catheter components and related subassemblies in an R&D environment.
  • Assemble small parts manually under a microscope, following established processes and work instructions.
  • Perform short-run builds using techniques such as braiding, reflow, bonding, annealing, and liner stretching.
  • Handle catheters with lead wires and perform soldering tasks as needed to complete assemblies.
  • Sort, pick up, move, and place materials or items on tables, racks, or bins to support production flow.
  • Clean assembled parts and place them into protective bags or boxes to maintain product integrity.
  • Package assembled parts and finished catheters according to quality and labeling requirements.
  • Verify raw materials and lot numbers to ensure correct components are used and traceability is maintained.
  • Build products by following all documented processes and complete assigned work while meeting manufacturing goals and metrics.
  • Rotate among tasks as necessary and collaborate effectively with group members within the team and cross-functionally.
  • Maintain accurate records, including training documentation and required production paperwork.
  • Perform visual inspections to identify defects or issues and ensure assemblies meet quality standards.
  • Report defective material or questionable conditions to the appropriate supervisor or department representative.
  • Follow and adhere to all safety and quality processes, procedures, and clean room protocols.
  • Communicate the status of operations in a timely manner to management, including any safety or process problems.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with clean room and facility standards.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support production, R&D activities, and continuous improvement.

Essential Skills

  • 23 years of experience building catheters in a medical device or similar manufacturing environment.
  • Previous experience in manufacturing performing visual inspections and operating assembly equipment.
  • Hands-on experience with catheter assembly processes, including braiding, reflow, bonding, annealing, and liner stretching.
  • Proficiency in working under a microscope for extended periods throughout the day.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and follow detailed work instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify defects and maintain high-quality standards.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure while meeting applicable deadlines and production goals.
  • Capability to work independently and productively with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks or projects simultaneously while maintaining accuracy.
  • Comfort working in a clean room environment and adhering to strict cleanliness and attire requirements.
  • Effective teamwork and communication skills for collaborating with group members and cross-functional teams.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with medical device assembly, including guidewire and catheter assembly in clean room settings.
  • Background in microscope-based assembly and inspection within a controlled environment.
  • Familiarity with clean room assembly practices, including the use of masks, gloves, hair nets, and smocks.
  • Understanding of medical assembly quality standards and documentation requirements.
  • Ability to verify raw materials and lot numbers to support traceability and compliance.
  • Willingness to rotate between tasks and adapt to varying levels of microscope work (approximately 10% to 50% of the day).
  • Strong organizational skills for maintaining accurate training and production records.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement in a manufacturing setting.
