Welcome to Verdantas, where innovation meets sustainability, and your career finds purpose!

At Verdantas, we’re redefining environmental consulting and sustainable engineering through our use of cutting-edge modeling and digital technology and our genuine commitment to people. Our work spans high-growth sectors like water resources, resilient land use, energy transformation, and civil infrastructure.

Our commitment to excellence, across more than 90 offices, is championed by a team of over 2,000 experts, scientists, engineers, geologists, and technical specialists, embedded in a people-focused culture, prioritizing the well-being of our employees, clients, and the communities we serve. We partner with clients to deliver smart, data-driven solutions to complex environmental and infrastructure challenges. We don’t just solve problems; we help shape a more sustainable future.

Join a people-first culture that values your well-being, empowers your growth, and amplifies your impact. At Verdantas, your career goes beyond the expected, and your work helps build a better world.

Ready to shape the future of resilient communities?

We are seeking a skilled, mission-driven Mid-Level AI Engineer to support an Intelligence Community (IC) customer on mission-critical applications. In this role, you will ideate, prototype, and deliver AI-enabled solutions that directly support national security objectives. You will work across the full technology stack - from intelligent backend services and RESTful APIs to modern front-end interfaces - building and maintaining applications that are reliable, scalable, and secure.

This is a collaborative, high-impact position that sits at the intersection of generative AI, agentic systems, and full stack software engineering. The ideal candidate brings strong technical depth in AI frameworks, proficiency across modern web technologies, and the communication skills to translate complex requirements into working solutions. This is a hybrid position requiring on-site presence 2-3 days per week.

What You’ll Do:

Ideate, prototype, and deliver AI-enabled solutions in alignment with stakeholders and existing application environments
Design, develop, and maintain full stack applications using Next.js, TypeScript, FastAPI, Python, PostgreSQL, and OpenSearch
Use Pydantic (Python) and Zod (TypeScript) for data validation
Build and maintain Docker images and deploy, configure, and troubleshoot applications in OpenShift
Investigate and resolve production issues across the user interface, backend services, database, and application deployment
Work with customers, product owners, and other stakeholders to clarify requirements, identify dependencies, and estimate implementation effort
Participate in technical design and code reviews, write automated tests, and maintain technical documentation

What You’ll Bring:

A bachelor’s degree may be substituted for 4 years of experience, and a master’s degree may be substituted for 6 years of experience
9 years of relevant experience in computer science, data science, and/or software engineering roles or a highly related field of work with similar scope and responsibilities
TS/SCI Clearance with Active CI Polygraph
Strong proficiency with at least 1 generative AI framework including but not limited to: LangChain, Haystack by Deepset, and LlamaIndex, among others
Strong proficiency in prompt engineering and prompt management
Experience with developing agentic AI solutions, including MCP, tool development, context engineering, and agent-to-agent (A2A) communication
Strong proficiency in React.js and TypeScript, including functional components, hooks, reusable component design, and API integration
Strong experience developing backend services and REST APIs using Node.js or Python
Proficiency with PostgreSQL, including relational data modeling, SQL, schema migrations, indexing, and query optimization
Hands-on experience with Docker, including writing Dockerfiles, building images, and troubleshooting containers
Strong communication skills and the ability to translate business and customer needs into clear technical requirements

Preferred:

Experience with AWS products
Experience with AI observability platforms such as Langfuse and LangSmith
Experience developing with agentic AI coding harnesses such as Codex
Experience with Next.js AI SDK and FastMCP
Familiarity with software development within the Department of War
Familiarity with Linux environments and Kubernetes concepts
Experience improving application security, accessibility, performance, and reliability
Experience working in an Agile development environment and coordinating with product, operations, and security teams

Salary Range:

$165,000 – $195,000

Benefits:

Flexible Work Environment
Paid Parental Leave
Medical
Dental
Vision
Life and AD&D Insurance
Short-Term and Long-Term Disability
401(k) with Company Match
Paid Time Off + Holidays
