Original job description

#jobalert | DIRECT HIRE | FIRE PROTECTION DESIGN ENGINEER | Kansas City Metro An established engineering consulting firm with decades in the built-environment market is hiring a licensed Fire Protection Design Engineer for its Kansas City metro office. This is a design-and-lead seat, not a production-only role: you will own fire alarm and fire sprinkler performance design from schematic through construction documents, run projects, and be a direct point of contact for clients and authorities having jurisdiction. The project mix is unusually broad for a firm this size, spanning aviation, multi-family residential, justice/corrections, education, and more. If you hold your PE in fire protection and want ownership of real projects plus a path to mentor younger designers, this is a strong seat.

  • Anticipated $100K-$135K, based on experience
  • Performance bonuses paid at minimum once per year
  • Benefits include: 100% employer-paid employee medical
  • Dental and vision coverage; 401(k) with match; PTO plus 9 paid holidays; flexible hours
  • Full-time, in-office, Kansas City metro. Travel up to 10%.

OVERVIEW

  • Lead fire alarm and fire sprinkler performance design across schematic design, design development, and construction documents
  • Manage projects and own the client relationship through the design lifecycle
  • Serve as the design authority in coordination with AHJs, confirming code compliance and resolving review comments
  • Produce and check design deliverables in Revit and AutoCAD, with markup and QA in Bluebeam
  • Apply codes, design guides, and standards to a varied project portfolio
  • Mentor and check the work of junior designers while operating with minimal supervision

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in Fire Protection
  • Strongly Preferred: active fire protection registration with the ability to stamp design work
  • Project management and direct client-relationship experience
  • Fire alarm and fire sprinkler performance design experience, schematic through construction documents
  • Intermediate working knowledge of applicable fire protection codes, design guides, and standards
  • Intermediate proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam
  • Strong written and verbal communication with clients and authorities having jurisdiction
  • Able to work with minimal supervision and mentor designers
