Original job description

Mechanical Assembly Technician We are hiring a Mechanical Assembly Technician for a client-side manufacturing operation that produces cells, cables, electrical components, battery packs, cable assemblies, and mechanical assemblies. This role requires careful attention to assembly instructions, quality standards, and production records. The technician will perform repetitive assembly operations, use hand and power tools, support inline and final testing, and maintain accurate reporting in the manufacturing system. The work environment involves Lean Manufacturing Processes, teamwork, and strict adherence to safety, quality, calibration, and documentation requirements. Candidates should be comfortable working with BOMs, travelers, drawings, work instructions, soldering, crimping, labeling, and test equipment. This position also requires communication with production management when issues arise and the ability to maintain production speed without compromising quality or design integrity.

Benefits

  • Pay rate is $18 to $20 per hour, depending on experience and certifications.
  • Schedule is Monday through Friday from 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Saturday from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM.
  • Opportunity to grow into administrative and advanced functions that require training.

What You Will Do?

  • Perform repetitive assembly operations for cells, cables, electrical components, battery packs, cable assemblies, and mechanical assemblies.
  • Read BOMs, travelers, drawings, assembly instructions, and work instructions to determine required materials and build specifications.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and semi-automated equipment for crimping, stripping, labeling, and mechanical assembly.
  • Complete hand soldering with low-temperature and high-temperature solder while meeting IPC Class 2 requirements.
  • Perform intermediate tasks such as potting, encapsulating, sanding, cleaning, epoxy bonding, curing, stamping, labeling, and ink jetting.
  • Operate inline and final test processes, including go/no-go testing, continuity testing, load testing, voltmeter checks, and ohmmeter checks.
  • Record assembly time, labor, notes, test data, date codes, serial numbers, calibration data, and quality information in the manufacturing system.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area while following all safety guidelines and production processes.
  • Check equipment calibration before use and verify that chemicals are properly labeled and not expired.
  • Communicate questions, issues, and quality concerns to production management during the assembly process.

Your Skills

  • Two years of experience in mechanical assembly, with solid soldering basics and hands-on production experience.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in English, both written and spoken, for instructions, documentation, and team coordination.
  • Experience using assembly tools, including screwdrivers, allen wrenches, wrenches, cutters, strippers, drills, and power tools.
  • Familiarity with test equipment, including basic pass/fail testers, programming-based testers, and equipment used for multiple failure modes.
  • Ability to work with wire prep, Molex pinning, crimping, tinning, date code setup, and label making using WASP or Zebra systems.
  • Knowledge of IPC Class 2 soldering for PIG and medical packs, and IPC Class 3 requirements for DH and subsea applications.
  • Comfort working in hazardous environments with strict safety procedures, including handling HM cells and 8S 26Ah cell strings.
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to maintain finished goods quality above 99% and keep scrap below 1%.
  • Calibration experience or willingness to learn calibration requirements for ESD production systems and ESD stations.
  • Ability to work with computer-based MES, labor tracking, quality records, date codes, calibration entries, serial numbers, electronics configuration, and PCA revisions.

Interested? If this role matches your experience, we would like to hear from you. Please be prepared to discuss your mechanical assembly background, soldering experience, testing knowledge, calibration familiarity, and comfort working with manufacturing systems and production documentation. Candidates who are organized, accountable, and able to follow detailed instructions in a fast-paced production setting are encouraged to apply. If selected, the next step will involve reviewing your qualifications against the technical requirements of the position, including assembly experience, English communication ability, and relevant certifications or process knowledge. We will follow up with qualified candidates to discuss the opportunity in more detail and outline the hiring process.
