Position Overview
An established advanced manufacturing organization specializing in precision metal forming and complex component manufacturing is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist to join its production team. The organization serves a diverse range of industries, including aerospace, defense, energy, and other highly engineered markets where precision, quality, and reliability are essential.
Reporting to the Manufacturing Manager, the CNC Machinist is responsible for setting up, programming, operating, and maintaining CNC machinery to produce precision components in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards. The ideal candidate has strong technical machining skills, experience with G-code programming, and the ability to troubleshoot processes, maintain tight tolerances, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
CNC Machining & Technical Operations
• Review and interpret work orders, engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to determine machine setup requirements, material types, production quantities, and finished dimensions.
• Interpret CNC program language, identify potential programming errors, and make appropriate adjustments to achieve required tolerances, surface finishes, and product specifications.
• Develop and modify CNC programs as directed by Engineering or Manufacturing Management to support production requirements and process improvements.
• Set up and operate CNC machine tools, including five-axis equipment, to manufacture precision components in accordance with established specifications.
• Install, align, and secure cutting tools, workholding devices, positioners, fixtures, plates, shields, and other machine accessories using appropriate tools and measuring instruments.
• Configure machine controls and adjust operating parameters, including cutting speeds, feed rates, and other settings, to achieve optimal machining performance.
• Apply tool offsets and make necessary adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy, print tolerances, and process consistency while accounting for tool pressure and wear.
• Inspect finished components using precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and checking fixtures.
• Perform secondary operations, such as trimming, sanding, and drilling, as required by production specifications.
• Complete routine operator maintenance on machinery and tools, including cleaning, lubrication, and equipment inspections.
• Follow Process Control Sheets (PCS) and provide recommendations when revisions or improvements are necessary.
• Assist Engineering with the development, implementation, and maintenance of process documentation and control procedures.
• Maintain accurate production records, inspection documentation, and quality logs as required.
• Support operational goals related to safety, quality, delivery, and cost (SQDC) by identifying and implementing opportunities for improvement.
• Share technical knowledge and machining expertise with team members and assist with training as needed.
• Participate in meetings, training sessions, audits, and other departmental activities as assigned.
• Complete additional duties and projects as directed by the Manufacturing Manager.
Safety & Regulatory Compliance
• Maintain a safe working environment by following established safety procedures, equipment operating guidelines, and applicable regulations.
• Comply with organizational policies and all applicable federal, state, and local safety requirements.
• Properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE) and machine safeguards in accordance with process documentation, job safety analyses, safety policies, and management direction.
• Promptly report unsafe conditions, equipment hazards, accidents, injuries, and other safety concerns to management.
Housekeeping, Preventive Maintenance & Continuous Improvement
• Participate in 6S workplace organization, Lean manufacturing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Perform preventive maintenance activities in accordance with established procedures and equipment requirements.
• Maintain clear communication between shifts by documenting and reporting completed work, equipment irregularities, production issues, and outstanding tasks.
• Properly store, organize, and maintain tools, equipment, gauges, and measuring instruments in accordance with company standards.
• Keep workstations, machinery, and surrounding areas clean, organized, and free of unnecessary materials.
• Complete routine housekeeping activities, including sweeping, cleaning equipment and tools, disposing of waste, and removing personal items from production workstations.
• Identify opportunities to improve machining processes, workplace organization, equipment reliability, product quality, and overall production efficiency.
Qualifications & Requirements
• High school diploma or GED required.
• At least three years of demonstrated CNC machining or CNC machine operation experience.
• Working knowledge of G-code programming and the ability to interpret, troubleshoot, and modify programs as needed.
• CNC machining education, machine tool training, or equivalent technical experience preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
• Familiarity with precision measuring instruments and inspection techniques.
• Forklift operation experience preferred.
• Strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills, and attention to detail.
• Effective time management and organizational skills, with the ability to balance multiple assignments and meet production deadlines.
• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to follow instructions and collaborate across departments.
• Demonstrated accountability for production efficiency, product quality, and timely reporting of nonconforming materials or processes.
• Customer-focused approach, with a commitment to understanding and meeting the needs of internal and external stakeholders.
• Positive, professional attitude and a commitment to honest communication, problem-solving, and continuous improvement.
• Reliable transportation and consistent attendance.

• Ability to lift and handle materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and regularly perform physical activities such as walking, sitting, bending, and moving throughout the workday.
• Ability to work in a manufacturing environment where exposure to noise, heat, dust, and operating machinery may occur.
• Ability to follow established safety procedures and wear required protective equipment throughout the workday.
Work Environment
