Job Title: Electronics Test TechnicianJob DescriptionThis role focuses on verifying that printed circuit board assemblies and electromechanical products meet customer specifications before shipment. You will set up and run in-circuit tests (ICT), flying probe tests, and functional tests, diagnose failures down to the component or process level, and collaborate closely with Test Engineering, Production, and Quality teams to resolve issues and improve processes. Working in a high-mix contract manufacturing environment, you will support a wide range of customer products and quality requirements while continuously expanding your technical expertise.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate in-circuit test (ICT), flying probe, and functional test equipment for printed circuit board assemblies and electromechanical products.
- Verify that all tested assemblies and products meet defined customer specifications and internal quality standards prior to shipment.
- Diagnose test failures to the component or process level, identifying root causes and recommending appropriate corrective actions.
- Collaborate with Test Engineering, Production, and Quality teams to resolve test-related issues and feed findings back into the manufacturing and test processes.
- Interpret and work from schematics, assembly drawings, and electronic work instructions to perform accurate testing and troubleshooting.
- Use oscilloscopes, digital multimeters (DMMs), and other bench instruments to analyze circuit performance and validate test results.
- Perform soldering and rework on electronic assemblies as needed to correct defects or implement engineering changes.
- Follow established procedures in an ESD-controlled environment to protect sensitive electronic components and maintain product reliability.
- Utilize Epicor ERP systems, barcode scanning, and electronic work instructions to record test data, track work orders, and maintain accurate documentation.
- Support a high-mix, contract manufacturing environment by adapting to different customer products, test requirements, and quality expectations.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by sharing tribal knowledge, identifying process enhancements, and supporting test engineering initiatives.
Essential Skills
- 24 years of experience testing and troubleshooting electronic assemblies, preferably in an electronics manufacturing services (EMS) or contract manufacturing environment.
- Associate degree in electronics technology or a related field, a technical certificate, or equivalent military or hands-on electronics experience.
- Solid understanding of analog and digital circuits, power supplies, and common electronic component types.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, assembly drawings, and electronic work instructions.
- Proficient use of oscilloscopes, digital multimeters (DMMs), and other standard bench test instruments.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for electronic circuits and assemblies, including component-level diagnosis.
- Hands-on experience with circuit testing and electronic assembly in a production or lab environment.
- Soldering and rework proficiency on printed circuit boards and electronic assemblies.
- Familiarity with in-circuit test (ICT), flying probe, and functional test platforms.
- Ability to work effectively in a high-mix manufacturing environment with varying customer requirements.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- IPC J-STD-001 and/or IPC-A-610 certification is preferred.
- Experience with ICT, flying probe, or functional test platforms for Takaya is a plus.
- Working knowledge of Epicor ERP systems, including navigation and data entry related to test and production activities.
- Experience with barcode scanning and electronic work instructions in a manufacturing setting.
- Comfort using oscilloscopes, lab instruments, and tools commonly found in electronics test labs.
- Exposure to LabVIEW or similar test automation environments is beneficial.
- Interest in growing into more advanced electronics engineering responsibilities over time, including while pursuing further education.
- Ability to learn quickly from experienced colleagues and contribute to a culture of shared tribal knowledge.
Work EnvironmentThe role is based in an ESD-controlled electronics manufacturing environment where you will work with printed circuit board assemblies, electromechanical products, and a variety of test equipment. You may occasionally be exposed to moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, and soldering fumes and heat, with appropriate ventilation and personal protective equipment provided. The noise level is typically moderate and consistent with a standard electronics production floor. The company operates as a very small, close-knit organization, offering significant opportunities to learn, collaborate with experienced technical staff, and grow your skills toward more advanced electronics engineering responsibilities while gaining hands-on experience across a wide range of customer products and quality requirements.
