Job Title: Process EngineerJob DescriptionWe are seeking a motivated Process Engineer to support and enhance manufacturing operations for custom electrical power distribution and control equipment. In this role, you will optimize production processes, improve efficiency, troubleshoot process issues, and lead continuous improvement initiatives while maintaining high standards of quality and performance. Responsibilities
- Analyze existing manufacturing processes in wiring, sheet metal and bus fabrication, and welding to identify opportunities to reduce waste, enhance productivity, and minimize downtime while meeting applicable standards.
- Develop and implement process enhancements, including the introduction of automation, lean manufacturing principles, and advanced technologies to improve throughput and consistency.
- Create and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, process flow diagrams, and training materials to ensure consistent and reliable production.
- Evaluate and recommend improvements to the overall release process from Engineering to Production Operations to ensure timely and accurate handoffs.
- Advocate for additions, clarifications, and completeness of drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical layouts, and panel/infrastructure documentation.
- Validate work instructions, job travelers, routings, and production notes for manufacturability, ensuring they support efficient and accurate production.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, ERP systems personnel, and order fulfillment stakeholders to drive accurate scheduling and effective use of ERP/MRP tools.
- Work with Quality Assurance, Engineering, Test, and Production teams to implement quality assurance processes and procedures, including inspections, testing, and documentation.
- Support the investigation and resolution of quality-related issues by performing root cause analysis and implementing preventive and corrective actions.
- Identify documentation gaps, process inefficiencies, and recurring issues, and drive corrective actions to improve process robustness and product quality.
- Lead or support continuous improvement initiatives related to workflow, BOM structure, standard designs, and documentation accuracy.
- Align with Operations leadership regarding ERP/MRP system improvements and contribute to the enhancement of engineering change management processes.
- Lead or participate in continuous improvement events to drive lean practices and operational excellence across the manufacturing floor.
- Participate in daily shopfloor Gemba walks to observe processes, engage with production personnel, and identify improvement opportunities.
- Coordinate with various engineering disciplines and departments to ensure integration of electrical designs with mechanical, structural, and architectural elements, such as conduit entry areas.
- Become familiar with the operation of newly installed equipment and tooling and incorporate them into existing manufacturing processes to improve capability and efficiency.
- Train and coach production personnel on new processes and changes to existing processes to ensure successful implementation and adoption.
Essential Skills
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Production/Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline.
- At least 3 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably involving electrical products and equipment.
- Demonstrated experience in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing methodologies.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes for electrical equipment, metal fabrication, wiring, and assembly.
- Ability to train and coach personnel on new processes and changes to existing processes.
- Proficiency in reviewing bills of materials (BOMs), mechanical and electrical drawings, schematics, and production documentation.
- Experience using Autodesk Vault, Inventor, and AutoCAD for reviewing and managing engineering documentation.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in power generation applications or products.
- Knowledge of plant layout design and optimization.
- Familiarity with power distribution, voltage levels, switchgear, and related electrical power equipment.
- Experience with generator control switchgear, automatic and manual transfer switches, switchboards and switchgear (low and medium voltage), quick connect cabinets, control panels, automation cabinets, or prefabricated electrical building (eHouse) solutions.
Work EnvironmentYou will work in a very clean, new, temperature-controlled manufacturing facility with a modern, open-concept office environment. All products are engineered and assembled in-house, and the organization has a long-standing reputation in generator control switchgear and transfer switches. The engineering team is expanding, and you will collaborate closely with approximately 100 colleagues across Engineering, Production, Quality, and Operations. The role is highly interactive and hands-on, with roughly 50% of your time spent on the manufacturing floor working directly with processes, equipment, and production personnel, and the remaining time in an office environment focused on design reviews, documentation, and process improvement activities. New equipment and processes are regularly introduced, providing ongoing opportunities to learn and contribute to the evolution of the facilitys capabilities.
