Job Title: Mechanical EngineerJob DescriptionThis Mechanical Engineer role focuses on designing and analyzing components and assemblies for aerospace applications, ensuring reliable performance in demanding environments. You will create robust product designs, perform detailed stress analyses, and optimize mechanical systems using advanced CAD and analysis tools. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you will contribute to the development of electromechanical actuator products and related control electronics, supporting both new programs and existing production.

Responsibilities

  • Create product designs that withstand aerospace environments, including high vibration, temperature variations, fluid exposure, and other contaminants.
  • Develop stress analyses such as gear bending and fatigue, bearing life calculations, Finite-Element Analysis (FEA), and other dynamic and static stress analyses using aerospace-preferred techniques.
  • Optimize mechanical designs by leveraging CAD modeling, stress analysis, tolerance stack-up, and other software tools while considering expected manufacturing processes and their impact on each design.
  • Design assemblies and components that may include gears and splines, environmental and EMI sealing, load paths, fasteners, springs, electronics integration, and packaging.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional integrated product teams and customers to develop product solutions that meet both customer and internal technical and performance requirements.
  • Apply knowledge of aerospace-grade materials and their properties, including typical post-processes used for wear resistance, corrosion protection, defect detection, insulation, and other performance enhancements.
  • Communicate effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, sharing technical information clearly and tailoring communication to different audiences.
  • Assist with product development activities, including planning and scheduling tasks to support program milestones and manufacturing needs.
  • Support production and aftermarket efforts by providing mechanical engineering expertise on existing and new aerospace actuation products.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university.
  • At least 5 years of engineering experience in a high-technology manufacturing environment.
  • Experience using CREO and 3D CAD tools for mechanical design and modeling.
  • Strong mechanical design skills, including component and assembly-level design for complex systems.
  • Proficiency with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) for precise engineering documentation.
  • Ability to perform and interpret stress analyses, including fatigue, gear bending, bearing life, and FEA-based evaluations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite for documentation, analysis, and communication.
  • Ability to work in the United States with appropriate work authorization.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience designing mechanical components for aerospace actuation systems and related control electronics packaging.
  • Familiarity with tolerance stack-up analysis and its application to high-precision mechanical assemblies.
  • Understanding of environmental and EMI sealing techniques in aerospace applications.
  • Knowledge of load path design, fastener selection, and spring design for high-reliability systems.
  • Experience integrating mechanical designs with electronic hardware and control systems.
  • Working knowledge of aerospace-grade materials and common post-processing methods for durability and reliability.
  • Strong collaboration skills with cross-functional engineering and manufacturing teams.
  • Ability to present and explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.

Work EnvironmentThis role is fully on-site, with work performed at an aerospace manufacturing facility. The standard schedule is an 8-hour day, 5 days per week. You will work closely with integrated product teams in a dynamic environment that designs and manufactures electromechanical actuators and control electronics for commercial and military aerospace applications. The facility supports end-to-end product development and production, offering access to advanced CAD, analysis, and manufacturing technologies. The workplace maintains a casual dress code while emphasizing professionalism, safety, and collaboration. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Whippany, NJ.
