Job Title: Mechanical EngineerJob DescriptionThis role focuses on designing, analyzing, and supporting high-reliability electromechanical systems, including motors, actuators, geartrains, and related mechanical components. The mechanical engineer will create detailed 3D CAD models and drawings, perform structural and tolerance analyses, and support products from concept through production and sustaining engineering. The position involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver robust, manufacturable, and reliable solutions for aerospace, defense, and industrial applications.Responsibilities
- Model and detail mechanical components and assemblies for motors, actuators, geartrains, housings, shafts, interfaces, and related electromechanical hardware.
- Create and maintain 3D CAD models, detailed drawings, tolerance schemes, specifications, bills of materials (BOMs), and complete drawing packages.
- Perform material and finish selection, structural stress analysis, tolerance stack-up analysis, and component selection to achieve reliable and manufacturable designs.
- Support the design of motor mechanical systems with a strong emphasis on durability, manufacturability, assembly, reliability, and system integration.
- Contribute to the design and refinement of shafting, bearing systems, housings, interfaces, sealing approaches, and associated mechanical hardware.
- Support lubrication selection, failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), mean time between failures (MTBF) and reliability analyses, and design improvement efforts.
- Participate in prototype builds, qualification testing, environmental testing, and root-cause investigations to validate and improve designs.
- Coordinate directly with customers, manufacturing, quality, test, and other engineering teams to resolve technical issues and advance designs through the development lifecycle.
- Support pilot builds, transition designs into production, and contribute to sustaining engineering and product improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with electrical engineers to integrate motors, sensors, feedback devices, drives, and packaging requirements into complete electromechanical assemblies.
- Help develop robust, high-reliability electromechanical solutions for aerospace, defense, and industrial applications.
- Apply strong hands-on skills to work with prototype hardware, troubleshoot issues, and support cross-functional product development activities.
Essential Skills
- Bachelors degree (BS) in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
- 57 years of current experience designing electromechanical actuators or similar high-reliability products.
- Strong background in mechanical design, including tolerance analysis and design for manufacturability.
- Experience supporting products from concept through release and sustaining engineering.
- Hands-on experience with prototype hardware, troubleshooting, and cross-functional product development.
- Proficiency in mechanical and electromechanical design, including mechanical systems and product design.
- Ability to create and manage bills of materials (BOMs) and detailed mechanical documentation.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Working knowledge of DO-160 and MIL-STD-810 test methods and environmental standards.
- Experience with advanced analysis and design tools such as Autodesk Nastran and Mathcad.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Synergis Adept or similar document management systems.
- Familiarity with Ansys or related structural, thermal, or multiphysics analysis tools.
- Experience with electric motors, actuators, rotating equipment, aerospace hardware, or similar electromechanical products.
- Knowledge of finish requirements, environmental considerations, reliability analysis, and qualification testing.
- Experience working in high-reliability aerospace, defense, or industrial environments.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Work EnvironmentThe role is based in a high-reliability engineering environment that supports products for aerospace, defense, and industrial applications. Work takes place in both office and engineering lab settings, combining design and analysis workstations with hands-on interaction with prototype hardware. The position involves regular participation in design evaluation, troubleshooting, and testing activities using laboratory equipment and test setups. The environment emphasizes rigorous engineering practices, detailed documentation, and close collaboration across engineering, manufacturing, quality, and test teams.
