Job Title: Manufacturing Process Engineer Gear Machining Launch ToolingJob DescriptionThis role focuses on serving as a gear machining launch tooling engineer who supports the successful delivery of a new manufacturing line for a flagship truck program. You will work closely with the headquarters launch team and suppliers to build, validate, and optimize gear machining processes, ensuring the line meets all key business metrics for safety, quality, productivity, and long-term performance. This position emphasizes developing and implementing new manufacturing processes and tools rather than maintaining existing operations, offering the opportunity to make a visible and lasting impact on a high-profile automotive launch.Responsibilities

  • Support gear machining processes through the development, selection, and optimization of tooling to achieve robust and capable operations.
  • Implement and support GTSV tool tracking systems to monitor tool usage, performance, and lifecycle across the manufacturing line.
  • Identify tool-dominant features within gear machining operations and implement appropriate controls to ensure consistent quality and dimensional accuracy.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in safety, quality, and productivity by applying engineering principles, analytical techniques, and best practices.
  • Complete all PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) quality launch documentation to support a successful production launch and ongoing compliance.
  • Apply engineering principles and analytical methods to establish new manufacturing processes and continuously improve existing processes and products.
  • Develop and execute action plans to investigate, prioritize, and resolve open issues, verifying corrective actions for both internal and supplier processes.
  • Lead and conduct process audits to ensure process discipline and adherence to Powertrain and plant guidelines, standards, and procedures.
  • Create detailed process documentation and instruction sheets that support quality methods, process control, and standardized work.
  • Deliver capable processes and tools for all gear machining operations, ensuring they meet launch requirements and long-term production needs.
  • Lead variability reduction initiatives by applying lean manufacturing principles and best practices to stabilize and improve processes.
  • Promote and support lean manufacturing initiatives such as waste reduction, flow improvement, and standardized work implementation.
  • Ensure compliance with plant, corporate, governmental, and environmental standards in all assigned processes and projects.
  • Support ISO compliance activities, including internal ISO auditing and corrective actions, to maintain certification and process discipline.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional launch teams to develop and implement new manufacturing processes for a major truck program.
  • Participate in installing and commissioning new equipment, ensuring proper integration with tooling, processes, and quality systems.
  • Drive quality and production readiness initiatives by identifying risks, implementing controls, and validating process capability.
  • Solve complex launch challenges in real time by diagnosing issues, coordinating resources, and implementing practical solutions.
  • Establish standards and best practices that production teams will follow after launch, including process parameters, tooling guidelines, and documentation.
  • Engage with suppliers to align tooling, process capability, and quality expectations with launch and production requirements.
  • Communicate regularly with manufacturing engineering, quality, controls, tooling, operations, and skilled trades to coordinate launch activities and resolve issues.
  • Present solutions and status updates to manufacturing and program leadership, influencing launch decisions and priorities.
  • Support and participate in continuous learning related to advanced manufacturing technologies, launch methodologies, and process improvement tools.
