Manufacturing Engineer Supporting Navy Programs!! Job DescriptionThis role focuses on supporting an aggressive production ramp-up for mission-critical U.S. Navy manufacturing programs by developing, optimizing, and troubleshooting CNC machining processes for precision metal components. You will create and refine manufacturing processes, programs, and tooling, while working closely with production teams to improve quality, efficiency, and throughput in a fast-paced, defense-focused manufacturing environment.Responsibilities
- Support an aggressive production ramp-up for mission-critical U.S. Navy manufacturing programs, including submarine, aircraft-carrier, and destroyer applications.
- Develop and improve machining processes for precision metal components with a strong emphasis on metal cutting and CNC machining.
- Create manufacturing processes for individual parts and determine appropriate machines, tooling, fixtures, and machining approaches.
- Develop and modify CNC programs using CAM software for production machining, ensuring programs are efficient and robust.
- Generate, review, and troubleshoot CNC programs, including G-code, to support reliable and repeatable production.
- Design fixtures and tooling using SolidWorks to support machining and manufacturing operations.
- Create and maintain manufacturing documentation such as work instructions, process routings, operation sheets, and other production documentation.
- Provide hands-on engineering support to machinists and production personnel to resolve manufacturing and machining issues on the shop floor.
- Support the installation, startup, and production implementation of new manufacturing equipment.
- Evaluate engineering drawings, specifications, materials, and part requirements to determine appropriate manufacturing processes and methods.
- Troubleshoot manufacturing problems on the shop floor and identify opportunities to improve quality, efficiency, and production throughput.
- Work cross-functionally with engineering, operations, quality, and manufacturing personnel to meet aggressive production requirements for Navy programs.
- Contribute to reducing production backlogs and supporting a significant production ramp through process development and continuous improvement.
Essential Skills
- Professional experience in CNC machining, metal cutting, or precision manufacturing.
- Hands-on manufacturing engineering experience supporting machining operations in a production environment.
- Approximately 2+ years of professional CAM/CNC programming experience for candidates focused on CNC programming, with the ability to become productive with limited training.
- Experience with a major CAM package such as Esprit, Mastercam, NX CAM, or comparable CNC programming software.
- Ability to understand CNC machining processes, tooling, fixtures, feeds and speeds, machining sequences, and manufacturing methods.
- Experience generating and troubleshooting CNC programs, including G-code, for production machining.
- Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings and manufacturing specifications.
- Experience with CAD and fixture/tooling design, with strong preference for SolidWorks as the primary design platform.
- Experience manufacturing close-tolerance precision metal components.
- Demonstrated capability in process development for CNC machining and metal cutting applications.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams in engineering, operations, quality, and manufacturing.
- Ability to meet the customer's stated U.S. citizenship requirements.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with castings, pumps, valves, naval equipment, or similar complex machined products.
- Experience with additional metal processes such as casting, forging, heat treatment, or surface finishing.
- Experience in grinding, drilling, milling, and turning operations within a CNC machining environment.
- Experience designing and implementing fixtures and tooling to support efficient production.
- Familiarity with precision CNC machining for defense-related or high-reliability applications.
- Interest in working on long-term defense-related manufacturing programs rather than short-term development projects.
- Ability to thrive in a high-impact role where immediate contributions to production ramp and backlog reduction are expected.
