Original job description

Landscape Architect / Designer Los Angeles, CA | On-Site Want to see your ideas make it all the way from concept to the built environment? Were partnering with a long-established, multidisciplinary Los Angeles design practice seeking a Landscape Architect / Landscape Designer who wants more than a narrowly defined production or concept role. This is an opportunity to work across design, documentation, multidisciplinary coordination, and later project phases, contributing to projects that range from public spaces and infrastructure-adjacent environments to institutional and design-intensive private work. You won't be limited to one project scale or one phase of delivery. One assignment may require big-picture site thinking, another may come down to how a detail is actually documented and built. If you're a strong designer who also enjoys figuring out how ideas become real places, that's the sweet spot. What you'll work on You'll collaborate closely with a small landscape architecture team while working alongside architects, civil engineers, consultants, and other design disciplines.Your work may include:

  • Developing conceptual landscape designs, site studies, and visual presentations
  • Producing AutoCAD construction documents, including plans, details, redlines, and design-development packages
  • Taking projects from early design into documentation and later project phases
  • Developing hardscape, planting, site, and landscape design solutions
  • Coordinating design information with architects, civil engineers, and consultants
  • Participating in project and client discussions as your experience grows
  • Supporting presentations, written narratives, and proposal materials
  • Participating in site visits and existing-conditions review
  • Helping solve design and documentation challenges without waiting for every next step to be assigned

The project mix The studio works across a broad range of scales and project environments, including:

  • Public realm and civic spaces
  • Streetscapes and transit-adjacent environments
  • Infrastructure-related landscape work
  • Institutional and educational environments
  • Urban and site-design projects
  • Select private-sector and design-intensive work

The common thread is versatility. You should be interested in both the overall design idea and the details required to deliver it. What we're really looking for We're less interested in checking every software box than finding someone who can design, document, communicate, and take ownership. You'll likely fit well if you have:

  • Professional experience in landscape architecture, landscape design, or a closely related design discipline
  • Strong AutoCAD skills with genuine construction-documentation experience
  • Experience developing plans, details, redlines, and drawing packages, not simply reviewing them
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop
  • Strong design fundamentals and visual communication skills
  • Experience working across multiple phases of a project
  • The ability to communicate questions, identify issues, and keep your work moving
  • A portfolio that clearly distinguishes what you personally designed and produced

Portfolio required Your portfolio matters here. We're specifically interested in seeing the connection between design thinking and execution. Strong submissions should help us understand:

  • What you personally owned
  • How you approached a design problem
  • How the design developed
  • Drawings, details or documentation you contributed to
  • Built work or projects that progressed toward construction

Please submit a portfolio or work samples with your resume. Nice to have

You do not need every item below:

  • SketchUp
  • Rhino
  • Lumion or comparable visualization tools
  • Revit exposure
  • Consultant coordination experience
  • Construction administration experience
  • Public/civic, hospitality, high-end residential, institutional, or urban-design project experience
  • Strong writing or proposal-development experience
  • Landscape architecture licensure or progress toward licensure

Revit is not required. Don't rule yourself out because your background is primarily AutoCAD-based. This probably isn't the right role if...

Your experience has primarily been:

  • Policy or planning work without landscape project execution
  • Rendering/graphics without documentation
  • Concept design without construction documents
  • Drafting without meaningful design responsibility

The team needs someone who enjoys both sides of the work: creating the idea and helping carry it toward construction. Work environment This is an on-site opportunity in Los Angeles. The studio places meaningful value on in-person collaboration, particularly because of the multidisciplinary nature of the work and the interaction between design and technical delivery. If you're specifically looking for a primarily remote or two-day-per-week work-from-home arrangement, this opportunity is unlikely to align. Why consider it? This opportunity offers something increasingly difficult to find early-to-mid career:breadth without being siloed. You'll have opportunities to strengthen design thinking, technical documentation, coordination, and project-delivery experience while working across multiple scales and project types. For someone who wants to become a more complete landscape professional, rather than being pigeonholed strictly into visualization, planning, or drafting, the scope is compelling.
