Job Title: Hardware EngineerJob DescriptionThis role is an experienced electrical hardware engineering position focused on the design, development, and release of electronic hardware used within vehicle mobility products. You will primarily work on PCB-level hardware design, guiding solutions from initial concept and schematic development through board layout coordination, prototype bring-up, validation, troubleshooting, and formal design release. You will collaborate closely with embedded software and systems engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of the hardware into the overall vehicle control system, contributing directly to products that improve mobility and independence for end users.Responsibilities
- Design electronic hardware and PCB assemblies for embedded vehicle control systems, ensuring robust and reliable performance.
- Own schematic design and development activities using Altium, maintaining clear documentation and design intent.
- Design hardware architectures around STMicroelectronics microprocessors and microcontrollers, including supporting circuitry.
- Select electronic components and develop circuitry for power supplies, communications, input and output interfaces, protection, and signal conditioning.
- Perform detailed PCB design reviews and support board layout activities to ensure manufacturability and compliance with design requirements.
- Conduct prototype board bring-up, debugging, and validation, resolving issues identified during early development stages.
- Troubleshoot electronic circuits using oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, and other electrical lab equipment.
- Develop and execute hardware validation and verification test plans to confirm performance, reliability, and compliance with specifications.
- Support CAN, LIN, and other communication interfaces from the hardware perspective, ensuring proper integration with embedded systems.
- Resolve hardware issues identified during bench testing, vehicle testing, design validation (DV), product validation (PV), and production testing.
- Complete design documentation and support formal design release processes, including engineering change management.
- Participate in design reviews, DFMEAs, root-cause investigations, and production release activities to improve product quality and reliability.
- Collaborate closely with embedded software, systems, mechanical, manufacturing, quality, and supplier teams to deliver integrated solutions.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of hardware development processes, tools, and standards across the product lifecycle.
Essential Skills
- At least 7 years of electrical or electronic hardware design experience, with a focus on embedded systems and PCB-level design.
- Strong PCB and schematic design experience, preferably using Altium for professional board development.
- Proven experience designing embedded hardware utilizing microprocessors and microcontrollers, with STMicroelectronics devices preferred.
- Hands-on experience with PCB board bring-up, including testing, troubleshooting, and validation of new designs.
- Demonstrated ability to select components and design supporting circuitry around microcontrollers, including power, communications, and I/O interfaces.
- Practical experience using oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, and other electrical lab equipment for debugging and verification.
- Experience taking hardware designs through the full design and release lifecycle, from concept through production.
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with automotive or vehicle electronics and familiarity with vehicle-level integration considerations.
- Knowledge of CAN and LIN communication interfaces and their application in embedded control systems.
- Understanding of embedded C or C++ and how firmware interacts with underlying hardware designs.
- Experience with wiring harnesses and connectors, including design, selection, and integration into vehicle systems.
- Experience in power electronics or power distribution for vehicular or industrial applications.
- Experience with EMC and EMI design practices and testing to meet regulatory and performance requirements.
- Exposure to environmental and durability testing of electronic hardware for harsh operating conditions.
- Experience conducting or contributing to DFMEA activities to identify and mitigate potential failure modes.
- Familiarity with ASPICE or similar process frameworks for automotive electronics development.
- Experience with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing to validate system behavior and hardware integration.
- Experience integrating electronics into OEM vehicle platforms, including collaboration with external stakeholders.
