Job Title: Electromechanical Test Equipment Engineering TechnicianJob DescriptionThe Electromechanical Test Equipment Engineering Technician supports production operations by ensuring automated and manual test equipment remains available, reliable, and compliant. This hands-on role focuses on quickly restoring test equipment from downtime through advanced troubleshooting, repair, calibration, and corrective maintenance of complex test systems, including rack-mounted RF test equipment and Environmental Stress Screening (ESS) chambers. The technician works independently with minimal supervision and serves as a key technical resource on the production floor, partnering closely with Test Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and RF Engineering teams to minimize production interruptions and maintain test equipment readiness.

Responsibilities

  • Independently troubleshoot and restore production test equipment to service, minimizing impact on manufacturing schedules and throughput.
  • Diagnose and repair complex test systems, including rack-mounted RF instrumentation, automated test stations, power distribution systems, and Environmental Stress Screening (ESS) chambers.
  • Perform calibration, verification, and functional checks on test equipment to ensure systems meet operational, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Repair, replace, and fabricate wire harnesses, cable assemblies, connectors, and electromechanical components used in test equipment.
  • Interpret and work from electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, blueprints, and technical work instructions to support troubleshooting and assembly activities.
  • Troubleshoot automated test software issues by reviewing and navigating existing test sequences, primarily using National Instruments TestStand and LabWindows/CVI, or equivalent automated test platforms.
  • Identify recurring test equipment or system failures, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions in collaboration with engineering teams.
  • Document troubleshooting steps, repairs, calibration activities, and equipment status accurately and completely in accordance with company procedures and quality requirements.
  • Assemble and test control cabinets, specialty wiring, and harness builds for test systems using hand and power tools.
  • Support the build, integration, and testing of custom test systems and equipment for a variety of applications, including medical, military and aerospace, automotive, consumer electronics, and rail industries.
  • Work closely with cross-functional engineering and production teams on the shop floor and in the test lab to ensure test equipment is ready, safe, and configured correctly for production use.
  • Maintain adherence to ISO standards and procedures while performing all testing, repair, and assembly tasks.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by suggesting enhancements to test equipment, processes, and documentation to improve reliability and maintainability.

Essential Skills

  • 5+ years of experience working with electronic or automated test equipment, or equivalent troubleshooting experience with complex electronic systems including RF, digital, analog, and power systems.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing complex electronic test systems, including RF instrumentation, automated test stations, and power distribution.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, blueprints, and technical work instructions.
  • Hands-on experience repairing or fabricating wire harnesses and cable assemblies, including specialty wiring and harness builds.
  • Strong electromechanical troubleshooting skills, including work with control cabinet assembly, testing circuits, and electromechanical components.
  • Experience working with RF instrumentation and test equipment in a production or lab environment.
  • Ability to perform calibration, verification, and functional testing on electronic and RF test equipment.
  • Familiarity with ISO standards and procedures as they apply to testing, documentation, and quality systems.
  • Proficiency using hand and power tools safely for assembly, repair, and test equipment maintenance.
  • Experience with electronics assembly and troubleshooting, including soldering and rework in line with industry standards such as IPC 610 and IPC 620.
  • Comfort working with Environmental Stress Screening (ESS) chambers and related environmental test equipment.
  • Strong documentation skills for recording troubleshooting activities, repairs, calibrations, and equipment status.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while supporting multiple priorities in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Willingness and ability to work extended hours, including regular overtime and Saturday shifts, to meet production and project deadlines.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Familiarity with National Instruments TestStand and LabWindows/CVI, with emphasis on troubleshooting and debugging existing automated test software sequences.
  • Experience troubleshooting automated test systems using equivalent automated test software platforms.
  • IPC certifications such as IPC J-STD-001, IPC-A-610, or IPC-A-620.
  • Experience working with RF test systems, radios, or RF measurement equipment.
  • Exposure to testing and supporting electronic boards and devices used in medical, military and aerospace, automotive, consumer electronics, and rail applications.
  • Experience working under ISO procedures and quality systems in a production or engineering environment.
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work closely with Test Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, RF Engineering, and project teams.
  • Interest in working on custom projects and gaining exposure to research and development technology, including hands-on custom build and development of testing equipment.

Work EnvironmentThe role is based in a smaller, highly collaborative company environment of approximately 40 team members, where each person often takes on multiple responsibilities and contributes across functions. The technician works primarily in a testing lab and shop assembly setting focused on test systems and equipment, including RF test racks, automated test stations, control cabinets, and Environmental Stress Screening (ESS) chambers. The atmosphere is fast paced and deadline driven, so comfort with shifting priorities, tight schedules, and a strong sense of urgency is important. Team members are expected to work efficiently, communicate openly, and ask for help when needed, fostering a supportive and team-oriented culture. Day shift hours typically start between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. and end between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., with current workloads commonly requiring 50+ hours per week. Saturday work from 8:00 a.m. to noon is consistent, while Sundays are not scheduled. The work involves extensive hands-on activity using hand and power tools, working around electronic and RF test equipment, and following ISO procedures in both lab and shop environments.
