Job Title: Electrical Engineer

Job Description

The Electrical Engineer will lead the design and analysis of electrical systems for complex industrial projects, including power generation, substations, power distribution, lighting, grounding, and lightning protection systems. Responsibilities include estimating, planning and cost studies, system sizing calculations, specification development, and preparation of one-line diagrams. This role requires collaboration across disciplines, clear communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders, mentorship of junior engineers, and, depending on project scope, serving as the Electrical Engineering Lead. The position is accountable for delivering quality designs while managing cost, schedule, and budget objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Design and analyze electrical systems, including power generation, substations, distribution, lighting, grounding, and lightning protection.
  • Perform estimating, planning, conceptual studies, cost analyses, system layouts, and sizing calculations.
  • Develop electrical specifications, one-line diagrams, and Revit-based designs.
  • Design lighting systems and controls to meet performance, safety, and code requirements.
  • Develop and apply hazardous area classifications (Class I and II) for gas and dust environments.
  • Conduct vendor evaluations, equipment sizing, and technical reviews in support of procurement activities.
  • Perform power system studies using SKM, ETAP, or similar software, including short circuit, coordination, arc flash, load flow, and DC analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards, including NEC, IEEE, NEMA, and NFPA.
  • Review and oversee engineering calculations, drawings, and design documents for quality, constructability, and code compliance.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and clients to deliver integrated project solutions.
  • Manage electrical project scope, schedules, budgets, and change management activities.
  • Support capital cost estimate development and contribute to project planning efforts.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership on assigned projects.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in electrical engineering and design within heavy industrial, power generation, chemical manufacturing, or similar environments.
  • Strong knowledge of medium- and low-voltage distribution systems, lighting, grounding, lightning protection, heat tracing, protective relaying, fire detection, and hazardous area classification.
  • Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam.
  • Experience using SKM, ETAP, or similar power system modeling software.
  • Working knowledge of NEC, IEEE, NEMA, NFPA, and other applicable codes and standards.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and project execution skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience leading electrical design efforts, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, and supporting project schedules and budgets.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing electrical systems in Revit and coordinating with architectural and structural models.
  • Experience in industrial facility power distribution and schematic development.
  • Experience with lighting design, vendor evaluations, technical bid reviews, and capital project environments.
  • Ability to mentor engineers and coordinate directly with clients and cross-functional project teams.

Work Environment Work within a multidisciplinary engineering team supporting capital projects in industrial, power generation, and chemical manufacturing environments. The role involves extensive use of Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, SKM, and ETAP, with responsibility for multiple projects and close collaboration with engineering, procurement, fabrication, and construction stakeholders.
