Job Title: Electrical EngineerJob DescriptionThis Electrical Engineer role focuses on the development of complex, high-layer-count circuit boards, with an emphasis on microcontroller and microprocessor subsystems. You will work on schematic capture, board-level integration, and high-speed digital interfaces for boards that incorporate large digital FPGAs. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to new product designs and to collaborate closely with ECAD designers and hardware engineering teams across multiple locations.
Responsibilities
- Support the development of complex, high-layer-count circuit boards, including designs of approximately 12 layers.
- Design and integrate microcontroller and microprocessor portions of the system, including schematic capture and board-level integration.
- Develop and support high-speed digital interfaces, including Ethernet and DDR4 memory interfaces.
- Collaborate closely with ECAD designers to guide board layout and ensure accurate schematic capture.
- Work on circuit boards that incorporate large digital FPGAs and understand how those devices interact with the overall system.
- Use Altium Designer (Altium 25) as the primary tool for PCB design and documentation.
- Perform design translation work between different ECAD tools as needed.
- Contribute to new product development projects, from concept through implementation.
- Coordinate and communicate effectively with hardware engineers located in multiple sites to ensure cohesive design and implementation.
Essential Skills
- Strong digital hardware design background with experience in FPGA logic.
- Hands-on experience with Ethernet interfaces.
- Hands-on experience with DDR4 memory interfaces.
- Proficiency with Altium Designer, specifically the latest version (Altium 25).
- Experience with high-complexity, multilayer PCB designs, including designs of approximately 12 layers.
- Ability to work closely with ECAD designers to guide board layout and support schematic capture.
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or equivalent degree.
- Experience in hardware engineering and digital hardware development.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with Mentor Graphics or similar ECAD tools for design translation is a nice-to-have.
- Experience with Gigabit Multimedia Serial Link (GMSL) camera interfaces is a plus.
- New product design experience is preferred.
- background in hardware development involving complex digital systems and high-speed interfaces.
Work EnvironmentThe role is part of a growing hardware engineering organization with approximately 25 people at the primary site and plans to expand. You will report to a manager based in Arden Hills while collaborating closely with hardware engineers in Rochester and Winona. You may sit in any of these three locations, enabling close interaction with cross-site teams. The work involves using modern ECAD tools such as Altium Designer (Altium 25) and potentially Mentor Graphics in a professional engineering environment.
