In this role, you create detailed, construction-ready designs using CAD tools and utility-specific software while ensuring full compliance with client, utility, and regulatory standards. You collaborate closely with engineers, project teams, and utility stakeholders in a hybrid work environment, helping a growing engineering firm successfully deliver larger and more complex projects.Responsibilities

  • Perform electric and gas distribution design work in accordance with PEPCO standards and procedures, using PEPCOs proprietary systems and tools.
  • Develop construction-ready designs and drawings for utility distribution projects using MicroStation or similar CAD software.
  • Execute utility distribution designs for residential, commercial, and multi-unit community development projects.
  • Use GWD and AS8 (Asset Suite 8) or similar utility design software to model, document, and update distribution system designs.
  • Ensure all designs comply with utility, client, and regulatory requirements, including safety, reliability, and constructability standards.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with engineers, project managers, and other team members to clarify scope, resolve design issues, and meet project milestones.
  • Communicate effectively with utility stakeholders and clients to gather requirements, provide updates, and address design-related questions.
  • Review and verify design accuracy, making corrections and adjustments to maintain high-quality deliverables with minimal oversight.
  • Manage your workload independently in a hybrid environment, prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced, growth-driven setting.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by sharing feedback on processes, tools, and standards, and by actively supporting a culture of learning and development.

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on experience using GWD utility design software for distribution design work.
  • Proficiency in MicroStation or similar CAD software to produce construction-ready drawings.
  • Ability to work independently with strong reliability and work ethic, delivering accurate work without heavy oversight.
  • Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with engineers, project teams, utility stakeholders, and clients.
  • Solid problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot design issues and propose practical solutions.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Associate degree is a plus, particularly in engineering technology, drafting, design, or a related technical field.
  • Strong preference for prior PEPCO project experience and familiarity with PEPCOs proprietary systems.
  • Experience using AS8 (Asset Suite 8) or similar asset management and design platforms.
  • Previous gas utility design experience, including work on residential and commercial developments.
  • Experience communicating directly with clients regarding project requirements, design changes, and deliverables.
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented environment with a strong sense of accountability.
  • Interest in professional growth and ongoing learning within a high-growth engineering organization.
