Original job description
Description
We are looking for a composites engineer with a few years of hands-on experience who is ready to own parts and processes from start to finish. You'll lead the engineering work on assigned components across design, process development, manufacturing, and testing, working closely with production, quality, and program teams.
This is still a hands-on role. Expect to split your time between engineering work (CAD, analysis, documentation) and the production floor (process development, first-article builds, troubleshooting). You'll make technical decisions with less day-to-day oversight, help develop newer engineers and technicians, and represent engineering to customers on your parts.
Key Responsibilities:
Own the design and development of composite parts and assemblies, from concept through production release, including design-for-manufacturability and tooling input. Develop, qualify, and improve manufacturing processes including hand layup, vacuum bagging, autoclave and oven cure, resin infusion, trimming, and finishing. Perform structural analysis (hand calculations and FEA) and material evaluations independently, bringing complex problems to senior engineers for review. Lead prototype and first-article builds, run root-cause investigations on production issues, and drive corrective actions that reduce defects, cost, and cycle time. Write and maintain work instructions, process specifications, and quality documentation, and review documents prepared by Engineer I staff. Support the material review process by evaluating and dispositioning nonconforming parts and materials. Plan material and part test programs, analyze results, and present findings to internal teams and customers. Serve as the engineering point of contact for assigned parts or programs, coordinating with design, production, quality, and customers on technical, cost, and schedule commitments. Mentor Engineer I staff and technicians, and share composites knowledge across the team. Follow safety and compliance standards, and lead by example in keeping the work area safe and organized.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with composite design and analysis tools such as CATIA Composites Design, Fibersim, or FEA packages (Abaqus, ANSYS, Femap/Nastran). Experience with mechanical testing methods (tensile, compression, flexural, interlaminar shear, etc.) and nondestructive inspection (ultrasonic, X-ray, etc.). Experience working within AS9100 quality systems, including first article inspection (AS9102) and material review. Experience with tooling design or process qualification for new parts. A master's degree in a related field, which may count toward the experience requirement.
