Hiring for a CMM Programmer in East Hartford! Job DescriptionThis role focuses on creating, modifying, testing, documenting, and supporting CMM programs used in aerospace repair operations. You will develop advanced metrology and measurement solutions for a wide range of aerospace engine components, particularly for repaired features that require precise dimensional validation after machining. The position offers the opportunity to work in a high-mix, low-volume environment, collaborate closely with engineering and manufacturing teams, and influence long-term measurement and repair-development processes.Responsibilities
- Create CMM programs from the ground up to support aerospace repair and overhaul operations across a large variety of part numbers and repair features.
- Modify, troubleshoot, and optimize existing CMM programs to improve reliability, efficiency, and measurement accuracy.
- Conduct program tryouts and validate CMM measurement results to ensure repeatability and consistency within a controlled quality system.
- Develop and document metrology strategies, setups, and maintainable programming standards for complex aerospace components.
- Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T requirements, specifications, repair instructions, and technical publications to define accurate measurement plans.
- Program parts and fixtures to support measurement of repaired features, including machined flanges and other limited-scope repairs.
- Measure repaired features after CNC machining and confirm that dimensional requirements meet engineering and quality standards.
- Document CMM programs and metrology work in accordance with aerospace quality and regulatory requirements, including FAA-regulated or similar controlled environments.
- Train operators, inspectors, and technicians on newly developed CMM programs, metrology workflows, and best practices.
- Collaborate closely with repair-development engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams to coordinate measurement solutions and support production needs.
- Support a high-mix, low-volume environment involving hundreds of part numbers and multiple configurations, each potentially requiring unique measurement strategies.
- Participate in the development and implementation of advanced metrology strategies and CAMIO-based CMM programs for complex aerospace components.
- Partner with union-represented manufacturing operators and technicians to implement new programs, resolve issues, and sustain production.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of inspection workflows, including integration of metrology with machining and repair processes.
Essential Skills
- Advanced, hands-on CMM programming experience in a manufacturing, aerospace, turbine engine, precision machining, or repair environment.
- Proven ability to independently create CMM programs from the ground up.
- Experience modifying and troubleshooting existing CMM programs to resolve technical and measurement issues.
- Strong understanding of dimensional inspection, metrology, and part-feature measurement.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct CMM program tryouts and validate repeatable measurement results.
- Experience documenting CMM programs and metrology activities within a controlled quality system.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, repair instructions, technical publications, and dimensional requirements.
- Strong understanding of machining and inspection workflows, including measurement of repaired features after CNC machining.
- Ability to train operators or inspectors on newly developed CMM programs.
- Knowledge of GD&T and complex blueprint interpretation.
- Experience working within FAA-regulated or similarly controlled aerospace quality environments.
- Ability to work on-site in East Hartford, Connecticut.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in aerospace, gas turbine, engine overhaul, MRO, or repair-development environments.
- Experience developing CMM programs specifically for repaired components, not only for production inspection.
- Experience programming parts and fixtures to support complex measurement setups.
- Experience supporting limited-scope repairs, such as measuring machined flanges or other specific repaired features.
- Experience working with hundreds of part numbers, multiple configurations, or a high-mix, low-volume environment.
- Experience developing metrology strategies, setups, and maintainable programming standards.
- Experience training manufacturing operators, inspectors, or technicians on CMM programs and metrology practices.
- Exposure to repair-development engineering, metrology strategy, program validation, operator training, and manufacturing coordination.
- Familiarity with CAMIO-based CMM programming platforms.
- Background in MRO, metrology, and engineering development activities.
