- Seeking a Civil Traffic Design Engineer to support transportation and transit infrastructure projects throughout the New York City metropolitan area. The ideal candidate will have hands-on civil/traffic design experience and a strong understanding of NYC-area transportation agency standards.
Responsibilities
- Develop civil and traffic engineering design plans for transportation, roadway, and transit infrastructure projects.
- Prepare traffic control designs, including Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MPT), Work Zone Traffic Control (WZTC), construction staging, detour plans, signing, striping, pavement markings, and signal improvements.
- Prepare engineering drawings, design sketches, specifications, quantity takeoffs, and cost estimates.
- Support roadway and intersection design, traffic impact studies, feasibility assessments, intersection capacity analyses, and access/circulation studies.
- Develop and modify design packages using MicroStation and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Review engineering drawings, contractor submittals, RFIs, design markups, and construction documents.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, multidisciplinary design teams, clients, and public agency stakeholders.
- Conduct site visits and field investigations to document existing roadway and traffic conditions.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable agency standards, project specifications, and design requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Professional experience in civil, traffic, roadway, or transportation design.
- Must have project/design experience supporting DDC, PANYNJ, and MTA projects.
- Experience developing transportation design plans, particularly MPT/WZTC, construction staging, traffic control, roadway, signing, striping, and/or pavement marking plans.
- Proficiency with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Strong understanding of transportation design standards and agency requirements within the NYC market.
- Ability to read, interpret, and develop civil and transportation engineering plans.
Preferred Qualifications
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred.
- Experience with OpenRoads Designer.
- Experience with traffic analysis/modeling programs such as Synchro, SimTraffic, HCS, VISSIM, AutoTurn, or GuideSIGN. Arora's previously published Traffic Design Engineer requirements specifically referenced several of these platforms.
- Experience working on complex NYC transportation, transit, roadway, airport, or infrastructure projects.
Ideal Candidate
- The strongest candidate will be a civil/traffic engineer who can step into active NYC transportation projects and contribute directly to design production. They should have genuine project exposure to DDC, PANYNJ, and MTA, rather than solely performing traffic studies or operations work, and be comfortable producing and reviewing plans in MicroStation or Civil 3D.
