Original job description

Civil Engineer in Training (EIT) / Early-Career Civil EngineerJob Description

Looking to accelerate your civil engineering career? Join a small, collaborative engineering and surveying firm where you'll gain hands-on experience across all phases of site development projects while working directly with experienced engineers and surveyors. In this role, you'll support a variety of civil site and land development projects including parks, municipal facilities, public spaces, stormwater infrastructure, and other community-focused developments. You'll use Civil 3D to create grading, drainage, utility, and erosion-control designs while receiving direct mentorship and exposure to permitting, agency coordination, and construction support.

Responsibilities

Support small to mid-sized site development and land development projects.
Design and prepare grading, drainage, utility, stormwater, and erosion-control plans using Civil 3D.
Develop engineering calculations related to grading, drainage, stormwater, and utility design.
Create and revise coordinated construction plan sets utilizing survey, topographic, and utility information.
Prepare permit applications, quantity takeoffs, and cost estimates.
Review drawings and calculations for accuracy, constructability, and coordination.
Maintain project documentation, records, and design assumptions.
Coordinate with engineers, surveyors, landscape architects, agencies, and consultants.
Manage project deadlines and communicate potential risks or schedule impacts.
Participate in site visits and construction observation activities.
Incorporate feedback from project reviews and agency comments into final deliverables.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
2-5 years of civil engineering experience focused on site development or land development projects.
Strong Civil 3D design experience with the ability to work independently.
Understanding of grading, drainage, stormwater, utility design, and erosion control.
Ability to interpret survey, topographic, and utility information to develop complete plan sets.
Experience preparing construction drawings, engineering calculations, and design revisions.
EIT certification preferred with progress toward PE licensure; early-career PEs also encouraged to apply.
Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
Willingness to conduct site visits and construction observations.
U.S. work authorization required. Sponsorship is not available.

Preferred Experience

Parks, municipal, public-space, or stormwater projects.
Land development and site-civil engineering projects.
Erosion-control planning and documentation.
Permitting, quantity takeoffs, and cost estimating.
Carlson software experience.
Interest in continued professional growth and PE licensure.

Why Join?

Direct mentorship from senior engineering professionals.
Broad project exposure rather than a highly specialized role.
Opportunity to work on diverse site development projects from concept through construction.
Close-knit, principal-led team environment with significant responsibility and visibility.
Clear path for professional growth and development.
Primarily in-office St. Louis team with potential flexibility for hybrid work when appropriate.
