Original job description

Job Title: Architectural / Engineering CAD TechnicianJob DescriptionThe Architectural/Engineering CAD Technician supports facilities planning and management by maintaining accurate building data, facility records, lifecycle information, and architectural drawings. This role focuses heavily on facility lifecycle data management within specialized software platforms while also updating existing AutoCAD drawings to reflect renovations, maintenance upgrades, and other building changes. It is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with both technical data and drawings, is interested in how buildings operate over their lifecycle, and prefers a varied role that goes beyond traditional drafting-only work.Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update facility lifecycle data for new construction, renovations, maintenance upgrades, and facility audits within a web-based lifecycle management system.
  • Manage and maintain building and facility records within lifecycle management software, ensuring data accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintain electronic record drawings and construction documentation for existing facilities.
  • Update existing AutoCAD drawings to reflect facility changes and renovations rather than creating full building designs from scratch.
  • Revise and maintain floor plans, including door locations, renovation changes, and other architectural elements.
  • Update drawings and records to reflect security and fire device locations and other building systems as needed.
  • Maintain and update HVAC airflow information and other building system data within drawings and databases.
  • Catalog and maintain electronic drawing archives so that records are organized, accessible, and current.
  • Support facility condition assessment and audit processes by providing accurate drawings, records, and data.
  • Coordinate and input information collected from facilities, maintenance, and design personnel into lifecycle and space management systems.
  • Conduct occasional field measurements and site investigations to verify existing conditions and support drawing updates.
  • Assist with drawing, database, and facility records research to support projects and facility audits.
  • Participate in occasional site visits, estimated at approximately 5% of the role, to gather information and confirm building conditions.
  • Work extensively within software platforms, databases, and facility records systems to manage, analyze, and update technical data.
  • Collaborate with facilities, maintenance, design, and school personnel to support ongoing building updates and lifecycle management activities.

Essential Skills

  • High school diploma.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience related to architecture, design, drafting, facilities, and/or construction documents.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, including the ability to update existing drawings accurately.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and construction drawings with a strong understanding of building documentation.
  • Experience working with construction, architectural, engineering, or facilities documentation.
  • Strong computer and software aptitude, with comfort working extensively in databases and facility management platforms.
  • Comfort with data entry, data management, and basic data analysis related to facility lifecycle information.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate, up-to-date technical data and records.
  • Comfortable working with both drawings and building-related data rather than focusing solely on drafting.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Computer-Aided Drafting or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience with facility lifecycle management software is a plus.
  • Experience with space management software is preferred.
  • Archibus experience is highly desirable.
  • VFA experience is highly desirable.
  • Experience performing field investigations and measurements is preferred.
  • Previous facilities, architecture, engineering, construction, or building-related experience is beneficial, even if not on large-scale commercial projects.
  • Revit experience is a plus.
  • Facility or database management experience is advantageous.
  • Genuine interest in buildings, how they function, and how they are maintained throughout their lifecycle.
  • Enjoys working in software platforms and managing data, not just drafting.
  • Comfortable learning new facilities software and adapting to evolving tools and processes.
  • Able to manage detailed records and ensure documentation stays current as buildings change.
  • Comfortable with occasional field and site visits, including taking measurements and documenting existing conditions.
  • Interest in making a 35 year commitment to support long-term, bond-funded facility projects.
  • Openness to potential future opportunities for longer-term or full-time employment beyond the bond-funded period, understanding this is not guaranteed.
  • Backgrounds including residential work with some commercial exposure can be suitable if AutoCAD, drawing-reading, and data/software skills are strong.

Work EnvironmentThis role is primarily office-based within a facilities-focused environment, with most of the workweek spent on a computer managing facility data, records, drawings, and software platforms. Approximately 35% of the role involves lifecycle database management and analysis, and about 15% involves AutoCAD drafting focused on updating existing drawings rather than producing full building designs. Field work and site visits make up roughly 5% of the position and include field measurements and facility investigations to verify existing conditions. The work centers on existing building conditions, renovations, maintenance upgrades, and facility lifecycle management, with a strong connection to school facilities and community-serving buildings. The position does not include supervisory responsibilities and requires comfort working independently with detailed data and documentation while also collaborating with facilities, maintenance, design, and school personnel. Hybrid flexibility may be available after onboarding, with the possibility of up to two work-from-home days per week based on performance and business needs; employees must remain available to come into the office for meetings or other requirements regardless of their typical remote schedule. The role is bond-funded and anticipated to continue through approximately November 2030 or until completion of the bond projects, offering a stable 35 year opportunity with potential, but not guaranteed, longer-term employment. The environment offers exposure to the full lifecycle of buildings, combining facility data, construction documentation, AutoCAD, building records, renovations, audits, and occasional site work, making it more varied and engaging than a traditional drafting-only position.
