Job Title: CAD DesignerJob DescriptionThe CAD Designer produces highquality 3D and 2D drawings to support engineering projects, sales, procurement, and manufacturing. This role focuses on creating accurate 3D models and bills of materials for complex systems, occasionally developing 2D electrical panel drawings, and helping maintain a consistent and uptodate standards drawing library. The position offers opportunities for professional growth, including advancement into a design engineer role, and participation in profitsharing programs.

Responsibilities

  • Produce detailed 3D drawings using Inventor (or similar 3D CAD tools) for systems based on guidance from project leaders, drawing markups, existing drawings, and written project documentation.
  • Create accurate 3D models that reflect design intent and support downstream activities such as procurement, manufacturing, and assembly.
  • Occasionally develop 2D drawings in AutoCAD for electrical panels, including wiring diagrams and panel layout drawings, following guidance from electrical engineers, markups, written documentation, and existing drawings.
  • Provide design support to sales, procurement, and manufacturing teams by preparing or updating drawings and models needed for proposals, purchasing, and production.
  • Verify that all drawings and models are complete, accurate, and compliant with internal standards before release.
  • Generate complete and accurate bills of materials (BOMs) from 3D drawings to support purchasing and manufacturing activities.
  • Actively maintain and update the standards drawing library to ensure consistency, accuracy, and reuse of proven designs.
  • Collaborate effectively with project leaders, engineers, and other stakeholders to clarify requirements and resolve design issues.
  • Participate in product development projects by contributing CAD design, modeling, and documentation support.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support engineering and business needs.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in 3D CAD design and 3D modeling, with experience using Inventor or SolidWorks.
  • Ability to produce accurate 3D models and generate associated bills of materials from those models.
  • Experience creating and modifying 2D drawings using AutoCAD, particularly for electrical panels, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to verify completeness and accuracy of drawings and documentation.
  • Associates degree in CAD drafting or a related field, and/or approximately 6 years of experience in 3D CAD design.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Ability to use positive conflict resolution techniques when working with crossfunctional teams.
  • Organizational skills to manage multiple projects, drawing updates, and standards library maintenance.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • 3D modeling experience with Inventor is preferred.
  • Experience with SolidWorks as an alternative 3D CAD platform is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with water treatment equipment, particularly commercial and industrial water treatment systems, is a plus.
  • Experience generating and managing bills of materials for complex assemblies.
  • Background in supporting sales, procurement, and manufacturing teams with CAD deliverables.
  • Interest in growing into a design engineer role over time.
  • Strong communication skills to interpret guidance from project leaders and engineers and translate it into clear, accurate drawings.

Work EnvironmentThe role is primarily based in a quiet office area dedicated to engineers and design staff, providing a focused environment for detailed CAD work. You will use modern 3D CAD tools such as Inventor or SolidWorks, along with AutoCAD for 2D drawings, to support engineering and production activities. At times, you may work in or near areas with moderate noise levels when collaborating with manufacturing or other operational teams. The organization offers a collaborative culture with profitsharing opportunities and clear pathways for growth into a design engineer position.
