Job Description

What matters most: quickly learns technical and business processes, works independently, and actively seeks and applies feedback.

Position Summary

The Project Manager leads cross-functional projects supporting new product development, product changes, sustaining releases, market expansion, and process improvement initiatives.
The role works closely with Engineering, Quality, Regulatory, Manufacturing, Service, Supply Chain, and Commercial teams to deliver projects on time and meet business, technical, quality, and regulatory requirements.
This position is ideal for someone who quickly learns new technical and business concepts, takes ownership of outcomes, and can work independently with limited day-to-day direction.
Success requires proactive communication, good judgment, and timely escalation of issues.

Essential Responsibilities

Lead cross-functional projects from initiation through implementation or closeout.
Develop and maintain project plans, schedules, milestones, risks, actions, dependencies, resources, and key deliverables.
Coordinate activities across Engineering, Quality, Regulatory, Manufacturing, Service, Supply Chain, Commercial, and other functions.
Quickly learn the technical topics, products, and business processes needed to support assigned projects.
Translate complex information into clear plans, decisions, actions, and communications.
Proactively identify risks, gaps, and delays; develop mitigation plans and escalate issues with recommendations.
Drive decisions and action items to closure and follow through on commitments.
Facilitate project kickoffs, team meetings, project reviews, and leadership updates.
Communicate project status, risks, resource needs, and recommended actions clearly and concisely.
Identify practical opportunities to improve project execution, PMO processes, team effectiveness, and business workflows.
Support PMO governance, portfolio reporting, prioritization, and standard work as needed.
Maintain accurate project documentation and support applicable quality and regulatory requirements.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent relevant technical education and experience.
Approximately 5 years of experience in project management, engineering, operations, product development, quality, or a related cross-functional role.
Demonstrated ability to lead work across multiple functions and stakeholders.
Ability to quickly understand complex technical and process-related topics.
Experience managing project plans, schedules, risks, dependencies, actions, and status reporting.
Strong written and verbal communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
Self-starter who can work independently, manage multiple priorities, and maintain momentum with limited direction.
Demonstrated ability to receive feedback, adapt, and continuously improve.
Proficiency with standard project management, collaboration, presentation, spreadsheet, and reporting tools.
Ability to work on-site in Madison, Wisconsin up to three days per week.
Ability to travel domestically or internationally on an occasional basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in medical devices, healthcare technology, software, manufacturing, or another regulated industry.
Experience supporting product development, sustaining engineering, market expansion, or process improvement projects.
Familiarity with quality systems, design controls, or regulatory requirements.
Experience with Jira, Microsoft 365, or similar project and collaboration platforms.
Ability to develop or improve processes using automation and/or AI tools.
PMP, CAPM, Agile, Lean, or related certification.

What Success Looks Like

Curious and quick to learn.
Comfortable working in a technical and regulated environment.
Proactive and able to operate with limited direction.
Receptive to coaching and willing to apply feedback.
Able to build credibility and alignment across functions.
Focused on driving results, not simply tracking activities.

Working Conditions

Office-based role located in Madison, Wisconsin, with regular interaction with both on-site and offshore teams.
Work is primarily performed indoors using computers and standard collaboration tools.
Regular collaboration with offshore teams is part of the role and may require flexibility in working hours.
Occasional domestic or international travel may be required.

To qualify for this position, candidates must be able to furnish proof that they are authorized to work in the country they are applying on a permanent basis without sponsorship.
