We’re a community of innovators, engineers, analysts and business professionals working together with our customers to tackle the most complex challenges. For more than 20 years we’ve supported critical Department of Defense (DoD), Intelligence Community (IC), Federal Civilian missions and global, multi-national corporations. We specialize in supporting our clients in the Intelligence, Technology, Defense, AI/ML, and Data Science fields. As we continue to grow at a rapid pace, we need some amazing new professionals to join our team.

ABSC has an exciting opening for a Senior Network Engineer supporting the Air Force National Capital Region Information Technology Services-2 (AFNCR ITS-2) program at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling.

AFNCR ITS-2 delivers and protects the enterprise IT infrastructure supporting senior Air Force leaders, command-and-control missions, and operational organizations throughout the National Capital Region. The program sustains secure classified and unclassified network environments where availability, cybersecurity, and rapid incident resolution are essential to daily mission execution.

As a Senior Network Engineer, you will provide advanced network engineering, administration, troubleshooting, and security-hardening support for mission-critical enterprise infrastructure. You will maintain routing and switching capabilities, resolve complex network and transport issues, manage Type 1 encryption devices, and help ensure AFNCR networks remain secure, resilient, and continuously available.

Work Location: Full-time onsite at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Washington, DC, with ad-hoc telework based on mission requirements and prior client approval.

Schedule: 6:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with participation in an on-call rotation.

Security Clearance Required: Active DoD Secret clearance or higher.

Responsibilities

As the Senior Network Engineer, you will:

  • Monitor enterprise network infrastructure and associated data systems to identify real-time alerts, system alarms, performance degradation, and anomalous activity.
  • Triage, isolate, troubleshoot, and resolve network anomalies using approved Standard Operating Procedures and automated scripts.
  • Escalate complex or multi-system incidents to higher-tier engineering teams or Government leadership when appropriate.
  • Configure, deploy, maintain, and optimize enterprise-class routers and switches supporting classified and unclassified network environments.
  • Monitor network hardware operations and validate configuration settings to ensure reliable performance.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex network hardware, circuit, transport, and transmission-logic problems.
  • Troubleshoot Layer 1 and Layer 2 transport issues across classified and unclassified network fabrics.
  • Configure and troubleshoot LAN technologies, including VLANs, VTP, Port Security, Spanning Tree Protocol, and Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching.
  • Implement, maintain, and troubleshoot routing protocols, including EIGRP, OSPF, and IS-IS.
  • Plan and coordinate network installations, upgrades, enhancements, and acceptance-testing activities.
  • Conduct technical assessments of network configurations and recommend improvements to performance, security, reliability, and capacity.
  • Coordinate with external hardware manufacturers, circuit providers, and service vendors to resolve outages and degraded-performance conditions.
  • Plan, schedule, coordinate, and execute Authorized Service Interruptions in accordance with command-directed change-management processes.
  • Perform Cisco IOS upgrades, security updates, configuration changes, and critical patching.
  • Apply DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides and DoD security-hardening requirements to network devices and supporting infrastructure.
  • Program, maintain, manage, and troubleshoot Type 1 inline network encryptors at network points of presence.
  • Manage inline network encryptors using GEM-X or comparable DoD element-management platforms.
  • Handle and safeguard COMSEC materials in accordance with applicable DoD custody and accountability procedures.
  • Support special network-engineering projects and site-lead-directed operational requirements.
  • Maintain technical documentation, network diagrams, configuration records, troubleshooting procedures, and incident-resolution information.
  • Advise network users and stakeholders regarding hardware requirements, configurations, capabilities, and technical limitations.
  • Communicate network status, outages, technical findings, operational impacts, and recommended corrective actions to Government leadership and technical stakeholders.
  • Support daily site operations and participate in the unit’s on-call rotation for mission-impacting incidents.

Required Qualifications

  • Active DoD Secret security clearance or higher.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Systems, Information Systems, Information Technology, Engineering, Engineering Technology, Software Engineering, Programming, Management, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Mathematics, Business, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • At least five years of progressive network-engineering experience analyzing, identifying, and resolving complex network hardware, circuit, transport, and transmission problems.
  • Three additional years of applicable experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree.
  • Relevant military technical training and experience may be considered as part of an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current DoD 8140 IAT Level II qualification.
  • Current Cisco networking or security certification, such as CCNA or CCNP Security, as required for the position.
  • Expert-level knowledge of enterprise LAN technologies, including VLANs, VTP, Port Security, STP, and Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching.
  • Extensive hands-on experience implementing and troubleshooting EIGRP, OSPF, and IS-IS.
  • Expert ability to diagnose and resolve Layer 1 and Layer 2 transport issues.
  • Proven experience configuring, administering, and troubleshooting enterprise Cisco routers and switches.
  • Experience designing, installing, and conducting acceptance testing of complex high-speed networks.
  • Deep knowledge of DoD network, transport, application-security, and infrastructure-hardening requirements.
