Reporting to:

Global IT Business Partner We are looking for a Solution Architect to lead the technical design and delivery of 3stepIT’s digital software solutions. This is a hands-on role that combines solution architecture and technical delivery. The Solution Architect will partner closely with business stakeholders to understand business needs, define scope and expected outcomes, assess solution options and effort, and establish clear measures of success. The role will translate business requirements into practical technical solutions and delivery plans that balance business value, technical complexity, security, scalability, and long-term maintainability. The Solution Architect will define and guide the detailed solution architecture, including technical frameworks, APIs, integrations, data flows, database structures, and code design standards. Working closely with tech leads and development teams, the Solution Architect will actively contribute to solution delivery when needed, while providing technical direction and ensuring solutions are implemented to a high standard. The role will ensure solutions are secure, scalable, reliable, maintainable, and aligned with 3stepIT’s long-term technology strategy and architectural principles.

Work arrangement:

This is a hybrid role based out of our Warren, New Jersey or Dallas, Texas office. Will work remotely and onsite, with regular in-office presence to support collaboration with business stakeholders, technical teams, and leadership.

Main responsibilities & tasks:

• Business Partnership & Solution Definition: Partner with business stakeholders to understand business needs, challenges, and desired outcomes. Help define scope, requirements, success criteria, dependencies, and delivery expectations before technical implementation begins.
• Solution Assessment & Estimation: Evaluate solution options and provide technical feasibility assessments, high-level effort estimates, delivery considerations, and technical dependencies to support prioritization and decision-making.
• Solution Architecture: Design detailed software architecture across front-end, back-end, APIs, integrations, messaging, data flows, and database layers, ensuring solutions align with enterprise architecture and long-term technology strategy.
• Technical Design: Translate business needs into practical technical designs and delivery plans. Define appropriate patterns, frameworks, interfaces, data structures, and technical standards together with development teams.
• Hands-on Delivery: Actively contribute to the development, configuration, integration, and implementation of solutions where appropriate. Take ownership of technical deliverables and support solutions through implementation and launch.
• Scalability, Performance & Reliability: Ensure solutions are designed using appropriate patterns to support performance, resiliency, scalability, security, and maintainability.
• Technical Leadership: Provide technical direction and hands-on support to development teams, helping resolve complex technical challenges and ensuring solutions are delivered in accordance with agreed architecture and engineering standards.
• Documentation: Produce clear and practical solution architecture and technical documentation that enables development, testing, support, and future enhancement of delivered solutions.
• Risk & Problem Management: Identify technical risks, constraints, and dependencies early and drive their resolution or mitigation throughout the delivery lifecycle.
• Security & Architecture Governance: Validate significant architectural decisions with Enterprise Architecture, Architecture Board, Security & Privacy, and other relevant stakeholders as required.
• Quality & Testing: Work with development and QA teams to ensure appropriate testing across the solution, including integrations and the overall technical stack, and support resolution of technical defects.
• Research & Innovation: Stay current with emerging technologies, development practices, and industry trends. Evaluate and introduce technologies and approaches that can improve delivery speed, solution quality, maintainability, and business value.

Qualifications and experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
• 5+ years of experience in software engineering, solution architecture, technical leadership, or a combination of these disciplines.
• Proven experience designing and delivering full-stack software solutions, including web applications, APIs, integrations, data flows, and databases.
• Demonstrated ability to take a solution from business need and initial scope through technical design, development, testing, and successful implementation.
• Experience working directly with business stakeholders to understand business problems, define requirements and scope, assess solution options, and establish measurable success criteria.
• Strong technical design and solution architecture skills, with the ability to translate business needs into practical, maintainable technical solutions.
• Strong hands-on software development skills and the ability to personally contribute to solution delivery when required.
• Strong knowledge of modern front-end and back-end technologies relevant to the organization, such as Vue.js, JavaScript, Spring Boot, Java, or comparable technologies.
• Experience designing and implementing APIs, integrations, data models, and database solutions.
• Ability to estimate technical effort, identify dependencies and risks, and break business requirements into actionable technical deliverables.
• Experience working in Agile software development and delivery environments.
• Understanding of software security, scalability, resiliency, performance, maintainability, and testing principles.
• Ability to communicate effectively with business stakeholders, developers, technical leads, architects, security teams, and management.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate complex business and technical challenges and develop practical solutions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
